Understanding Deterioration due to Salt and Ice Crystallization in Scandinavian Massive Brick Masonry
نویسندگان
چکیده
Extensive durability problems such as weathering and degradation are found in historic Scandinavian brick masonry buildings, especially from the neo-Gothic period. These largely due to crystallization of salts frost action bricks mortars. This article aims show illustrate which crystals buildings describe their appearance behavior. An additional aim is explore possibilities preventing salt-related damage on internal wall surfaces, using hemp-lime sacrificial plaster beneath plaster. The objective mechanisms behind perform a case study laboratory salt-damaged containing sodium sulphate. In order prevent stop masonry, it important be able identify nature salt type that caused damage. Neo-Gothic require well-planned, continuous maintenance masonry. It therefore utmost importance have an understanding complex functions can cause these buildings.

Study the Reinforced Concrete Frame with Brick Masonry Infill due to Lateral Loads
In the building construction, framed structures are frequently used due to ease of construction and rapid progress of work. Masonry infill panels have been widely used as interior and exterior partition walls for aesthetic reasons and functional needs. When infill walls are omitted in a particular storey, a soft storey is formed compared to much stiffer other stories. The masonry infill has bee...
متن کاملDamage in porous media due to salt crystallization.
We investigate the origins of salt damage in sandstones for the two most common salts: sodium chloride and sulfate. The results show that the observed difference in damage between the two salts is directly related to the kinetics of crystallization and the interfacial properties of the salt solutions and crystals with respect to the stone. We show that, for sodium sulfate, the existence of hydr...
متن کاملEstimating the Mechanical Properties of Travertine Building Stones Due to Salt Crystallization Using Multivariate Regression Analysis
Salt crystallization is one of the most powerful weathering agents that may cause a rapid change in the mechanical properties of stones, and thus limit their durability. Consequently, determining the mechanical properties of stones due to salt crystallization is important for natural building stones used in marine environmental and mild climatic conditions, which expose excessive salt crys...
متن کاملEffective stiffness of unreinforced brick masonry walls
Code design of Unreinforced Masonry (URM) buildings is based on elastic analysis, which requires as input parameter the effective stiffness of URM walls. Current approaches estimate the effective stiffness as fixed ratio of the gross sectional stiffness but comparisons with experimental results have shown that this does not yield satisfactory predictions. In this paper, a recently developed ana...
متن کاملSize Dependence of Strength and Fracture Properties of Brick Masonry
The test data on the size effect in the failure of masonry walls and some parts of the discussion of size effect are valuable. However, the theoretical description of the size effect is in my opinion invalid. The use of the "multifractal scaling law" proposed earlier by the senior author is unjustified, for the same reasons as it is for concrete structures. The reasons are explained in detail i...
